The
Boys Golf Club (BGC) is a developmental golf program open to boys
ages 5-14. The BGC is designed to encourage participants to have
fun, learn basic fundamentals of the game and provide an opportunity
to advance and grow by playing from appropriate yardages for each
skill level. Participants in the BGC are encouraged to have a
caddy to help them enjoy their time. Allowing a caddy is a special
component of the BGC to encourage family interaction. Fifteen
events are scheduled during the year and participants can also
participate in clinics that include golf etiquette, golf fundamentals,
rules and tournament preparation in a non-threatening environment.
The
BGC consists of five different participation levels. These levels
are unique in that members in each level play a specific number
of holes from appropriate yardages. Although the BGC is primarily
a program to help kids have fun and learn, each event will have
a competition portion for which prizes will be awarded.
The
five participation levels are:
Gecko - 3 holes from a maximum yardage of 150 yards
from the green
Roadrunner - 6 holes from a maximum yardage of 250
yards from the green
Scorpion - 9 holes from a maximum yardage of 350
yards from the green
Rattler - 9 holes from the forward tee markers at
2400-2600 total yards (must be at least 8 years old)
Coyote - 18 holes from the forward or middle tee
markers at 5400- 5800 total yards (must be at least 10 years old)
NOTE: Yardage may vary on shorter courses
Placement
Participants are placed into levels based on the following guidelines.
Once a student becomes proficient at a level, they will graduate
to the next level. Upon satisfactory performance at the Coyote
level, participants will be eligible to participate in JGAA tournaments.
Gecko
- For boys 5 and older and are ready for fun kid-friendly learning
Roadrunner - For boys that consistently shoot 18
or better for 3-holes
Scorpion - For boys that consistently shoot 36 or
better for 6-holes
Rattler - For boys that consistently have a 9-hole
score of 54 or better
Coyote - For boys that consistently have a 9-hole
score of 45 or better
The
JGAA staff will move a player to a higher or lower division based
on performance. Requests by player/parent to move to a higher
division need to be submitted to the JGAA office in writting (email
request OK) three days prior to the next event.
Eligibility
JGAA
tournament players are not eligible to compete in the Boys Golf
Club. Once a player moves from BGC events to JGAA events, they
cannot move back during the calendar year. Participants are expected
to be "course ready" prior to playing in any of the events.
Caddies
Players eight and under must have a caddie at all times. We suggest
players select their parent, grandparent, other family members,
or friend. Caddies must be at least sixteen years old and be certified
through the JGAA (see Caddie Certification). The JGAA Dress Code
and Code of Conduct applies to caddies. Failure to abide will
result in action by the JGAA staff.
Membership
Membership in the BGC is for the calendar year and is required
for participation in any event or clinic. If a players moves up
to the JGAA tournament division, the BGC membership fee is applied
to the JGAA membership fee.
Cost
There is a Membership Fee of $30 for BGC. Most BGC events cost
$15-$35 for participants but some Fall/Winter/Spring events could
cost more because they must be on weekends and golf courses often
charge more during this time of year. Tournament entry fees at
each event include: green fees and awards for the Top 3 finishers
in each skill level.
